Painted pieces will have several coats of paint applied, and then the piece will be lightly distressed by hand, giving it a unique, weathered look. Washed pieces will have a single coat of paint applied, and then be distressed by hand. This gives the piece a antique look, and no two pieces will look exactly the same.
